Didar A Husain

Chairman, Board of Trustees

Didar A Husain is the Chairman of the IUB Board of Trustees. A Freedom Fighter, he is recognized at the Liberation War Museum. Following his retirement from the Bangladesh Army as Major, he joined the textiles business, currently leading Rahim Textile Mills Limited. He is also Managing Director and Chairman of PCS Bangladesh Pvt. Ltd. and Cannon Pest Management Bangladesh Pvt. Ltd. A former VP at BTMA and a member of Bangladesh Diabetic Association's National Council, he is committed to fostering IUB's educational excellence through teamwork and hard work.

Prof. Dr. M. Tamim

Vice Chancellor

Prof. M. Tamim joined IUB as Vice Chancellor in December 2024. Previously, he was Professor of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Engineering and Dean at BUET. He earned his bachelor's from BUET, master's from IIT-Madras, and PhD from the University of Alberta. His expertise includes reservoir engineering, energy economics, GHG mitigation, and environmental solutions. He held key government roles, managed the Power and Energy Ministry in 2008, and was Pro-VC of BRAC University (2019-20). He is the founding Chair of SPE-Bangladesh, and a Life Fellow of IEB.

Prof. Dr. Daniel W. Lund

Pro Vice Chancellor

Prof. Lund joined IUB as Pro Vice Chancellor in April 2025. He was previously Founding Dean of Graduate Programs and Executive Education at British Management University, Uzbekistan, has held senior academic roles in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the Solomon Islands and taught at top universities in China, Mexico, and Kazakhstan. He holds a PhD from Griffith University, an MBA from York, and a BA from Victoria. Besides publishing extensively in peer-reviewed journals, he served on academic boards worldwide and advised government agencies in several countries.

Khandker Md. Iftekhar Haider

Treasurer

Khandker Md. Iftekhar Haider joined IUB as Treasurer in 2017 and was reappointed for a second term in 2021. He also served as the Acting Vice Chancellor from August to December 2024. Before IUB, he served as Secretary in the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment and held key roles such as Rector of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre and Chairman of Probashi Kallyan Bank. Mr. Haider has extensive experience in public administration and holds degrees from the University of Rajshahi and the University of Dhaka.

Prof. Shah M. Faruque, PhD

Professor, Department of Life Sciences

Prof. Shah M. Faruque is widely recognized for his pioneering research in epidemiology, genetics, and evolution of the cholera pathogen Vibrio cholerae. His cutting-edge studies encompass bacterial and phage genomics, epidemiology, ecology and evolution of bacterial pathogens which cause food-borne and waterborne diseases. With over 150 publications, his research truly advances our knowledge in pathogen evolution and microbial ecology. Prof. Faruque, awarded the TWAS Prize in Medical Sciences, has made impactful contributions in global health research.

Prof. Md. Abdul Khaleque, PhD

Professor, Department of Environmental Science and Management

Dr. Khaleque's research focuses on water quality monitoring, ecotoxicology, waste management, and environmental remediation. He has published 49 research papers, with high engagement, accumulating over 50,000 reads and more than 6,200 citations. His work emphasizes sustainable pollution reduction methods, including innovative uses of bio-adsorbents and nanotechnology in water treatment. From 2013 to 2022, Dr. Khaleque contributed as an author to science textbooks for Classes 6-10 of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), Bangladesh.

Mariz Sintaha, PhD

Assistant Professor, Department of Life Sciences

Dr. Sintaha has over 4,000 citations and an h-index of 13. Her scholarly contributions span global population health, nutrition, and molecular life sciences, published in leading journals like The Lancet series. Her recent research focuses on plant stress biology, molecular mechanisms of stress memory, drought stress priming, non-coding RNAs, and alternative splicing in plants. She earned her PhD in Molecular Biotechnology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She also serves as reviewer for reputable journals, including those published by Springer Nature.

Prof. Md Mamun Habib, PhD

Professor & Head, Department of Management

Prof. Habib brings over 23 years of teaching, research, and consulting experience. He has published 250+ papers, including 80 indexed articles in Scopus and Web of Science, and supervised numerous PhD scholars worldwide. He is involved in business school accreditation as an AACSB Virtual Ambassador and ACBSP Evaluator. Active in professional organizations, he serves as a Visiting Scientist at University of Texas at Arlington and consults with industry partners like AmCham and USAID. He is also featured in BRITISHPEDIA by the British Publication House, UK.

Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, PhD

Associate Professor & Head, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Dr. Chowdhury has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University, focusing on biosensors, and conducted postdoctoral research in plasmonics for bio-sensing at University of Maryland. He has published over 30 journal papers, co-authored numerous conference proceedings and three book chapters, has 3,261 citations, and holds a US patent in super-resolution microscopy. He founded the IUB Photonics Simulation Laboratory, leading research on developing high efficiency solar cells. He also has experience in IP law as a former Patent Technical Specialist.

K Ayaz Rabbani, PhD

Dean, School of Environment and Life Sciences

Dr. Rabbani's research spans pollutant bioremediation, air quality, wastewater treatment, and chemical pollution management. With 36 research publications, he has achieved over 2,300 citations and 39,000 reads. Dr. Rabbani, an alumnus of the University of Illinois and University of Toronto, is actively engaged in collaborative projects addressing critical environmental challenges impacting public health and sustainability.

Mohammad Sorowar Hossain, PhD

Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Science and Management

Dr. Hossain has 24+ years of experience in academia & industry, specializing in biomedical research & public health. He has a PhD in Molecular Biology from National University of Singapore & completed postdocs at Duke-NUS & National Cancer Centre Singapore. He has coauthored 70+ publications in journals like The Lancet, JAMA Pediatrics, Cell Reports. His current research focuses on public health aspects of emerging diseases in resource-limited settings. His work on thalassemia features in national school textbooks in Bangladesh, highlighting its importance.

Khan Muhammad Bin Asad, PhD

Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Sciences

Dr. Asad, a professional astronomer, specializes in radio and x-ray astronomy, focusing on observational 21-cm cosmology, radio & x-ray observations of galaxy clusters, radio astronomy antennas, & deep-learning applications in astronomical data analysis. With 30+ publications, his research advances the understanding of cosmic phenomena and enhances observational techniques. His work has significantly contributed to astrophysics through innovative data-driven methodologies and the development of radio astronomy techniques.

Md Kafiul Islam, PhD, SMIEEE, MIEB

Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Dr. Islam specializes in biomedical instrumentation, neural signal processing, and brain-computer interface technologies. He has published over 63 peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters, with over 2,375 Google Scholar citations. He earned his PhD in ECE from the National University of Singapore. He serves as an Associate Director of QA, IEB-BAETE, and is actively involved in OBE, curriculum design and accreditation processes. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a member of IEB.

Prof. Amin Ahsan Ali, PhD

Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering

Dr. Ali specializes in machine learning, data science, and mHealth. He leads the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning wing of the Center for Computational and Data Sciences & co-directs the Data & Design Lab. His research, including 80+ publications and 1,930 citations, focuses on computer vision & natural language processing, aims to develop and apply data-driven models across fields like geospatial data analysis, computational physics, & biology.
